The talk will start with a discussion on the definitions of cyberthreats and cybercrime and their, possibly diverging, interpretations. The European Union rationale for taking initiatives in both areas will be outlined and a pragmatic taxonomy of cyberthreats and related defensive measures will be presented. An overview of current international and EU legislative framework will be provided, which includes The Council of Europe (not a European institution) Convention on Cybercrime and will cover initiatives underway within the European Union and elsewhere. The issue of cooperation with other countries will also be discussed and some concluding remarks will be drawn.
